EWGA
LI Marshals the 18th Hole at the Commerce Bank Long
Island Classic
"The
EWGA Long Island Chapter women marshaled the 18th
Hole at the Sr. PGA Tour, Commerce Bank Long Island
Classic at the Red Course at Eisenhower Park. From
Wednesday, June 30th to Sunday, July 4th, 2004 Jackie
Meli-Rizzo, Hole Captain coordinated forty-one (41)
EWGA members from the Long Island Chapter to marshal
the hole from tee to green. They marshaled a 455-yard,
Par 4 hole. It was a lot of ground to cover but
the ladies handled it with style and grace.
The
women made a significant presence at the event.
They marshaled the hole completely by themselves
and the Pro's, caddies, walking scorers all commented
on the spectacular job they did. They said we were
the best "manned" hole of the tournament.

Thank you all so much for your hard work and efforts
to make our first marshaling of the 18th hole of
the Commerce Bank LI Classic at Eisenhower a success.
The ladies stepped in as Acting Captains, Co-Captains,
worked double shifts, worked several days. They
acted as "pro's". On Wednesday seven brave
EWGA volunteers and Eisenhower League Members ventured
a "Day of Golf". The day started with
working two consecutive shifts marshaling, and then
to support their fellow league players, shuttled
over to the Blue Course and played 9 holes for their
weekly league They took the challenge and completed
the task - the EWGA way with endurance substance
and fortitude.
The feedback from the tournament office was extremely
positive. They want us back next year. But next
time they want us to line the fairways with EWGA
women in red uniforms wearing straw hats. Let's
all meet again and do it next year. It will be second
nature and easier for all of us. Thanks to all that
volunteered."
Regards and thanks for everything.
