The Long Island Chapter is the largest EWGA chapter in the world! In 2010 we proudly offer 13 different leagues for you to join covering a wide range of venues and playing levels.
Please read “How Do I Join a League" for complete information on the process involved and answers to other frequently asked questions. The first available time to join a league for the new season is at our Tee-Off Dinner being held on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Watch for details at this website. If you are unable to attend the Tee-Off, the application and relevant information will be available on the website the day following the Tee-Off.
All new members are required to attend two seminars which are offered at various times prior to and during the season; the Rules & Etiquette Seminar and the Handicap Seminar. In addition, beginner leagues hold mandatory pre-season meetings to impart the rules and procedures specific to our league play. The intermediate/advanced leagues have more informal meetings for new members before or after league play the first few weeks to impart this information. If you are unable to attend ANY of these meetings, you must contact the League Chair and arrangements will be made to ensure you are eligible to participate in league play. This may include being mentored during a
9-hole round.
Leagues will begin playing the week of May 4th and officially continues for 20 weeks, through the week of September 14th. There are some notable exceptions:
The Match Play Leagues have their own schedule outlined in its course description and the League Handbook
Travel League continues to meet through the end of Oct |
Occasionally a course has a commitment on a day/time that League normally meets. In that event, every effort is made to substitute a date for League Play.
When you decide to join a league(s), you will pay a nonrefundable administrative fee of $60 (to cover costs of pre-season meetings, End of League Season Dinner, trophies and other incidentals) and a security deposit that is refundable should you ever decide to resign.
**The $50 security deposit entitles you to join an unlimited number of leagues. You sign up for League Play only when you are available to play and are responsible for the greens fees when you play. Once you have paid this deposit, it rolls over year to year as long as you remain a member in good standing.
We are proud to offer this significantly reduced security deposit. It is a one-time fee that will roll over year after year. BUT this requires complete cooperation on the part of our members. IF you are a no-show at a league where you requested a tee time and did not cancel in a timely manner (outlined in League Handbook), you must submit a check for the greens fees to the Finance Captain before you will be permitted to request another tee time at any of the leagues you joined.
All our communication occurs by e-mail, so it is imperative you provide the e-mail address you would like to be contacted at. Make sure your server will accept e-mails from our organization and its committee members. In the event that any of your contact information changes subsequent to joining, please notify the Membership Captain at each league you join and the National EWGA at
www.ewga.com. It is imperative that our information match theirs for our system to be effective. Upon receipt of your application, signed waiver and check, you will receive an e-mail from each league you join outlining all the league specific instructions related to that league; how to request tee times, how to cancel, what to do when you arrive at a course to play in league, etc. Please allow a few weeks after the Tee-Off Dinner for rosters to be created and e-mails to be sent.
There is no handicap requirement at the three Beginner Leagues, but maintaining a handicap is required at all the other leagues. If you are in the process of establishing a handicap, we understand that and time allowances will be made. We enjoy a fabulous End of League Awards Dinner to celebrate the end of our season and distribute trophies. There are some fun tournaments held throughout the season culminating with a League Championship held towards the end of the season. Trophies are awarded for Low Gross and Low Net, which is why handicaps are mandatory. NO trophies will be awarded to anyone in a non-beginner league who has not maintained a handicap.
Informal socializing is enjoyed by many after League Play.
Please note that we have provided leagues for all skill levels. Your membership is contingent on you complying with all the rules and procedures as outlined in the 2010 League Handbook. Make sure to read the
handbook which is available online and distributed at pre-season meetings. Please familiarize yourself with it even if you are a returning member. Infractions against policy, etiquette or required pace of play may be grounds for the League Committee to require reassignment to a different league or cancellation of your membership.
The EWGA-LI Chapter is an ALL-volunteer organization and is comprised of many, many dedicated women who work on the various committees with the commitment to provide our members a fun experience, whether playing golf at leagues and outings or the many social and networking opportunities that are provided throughout the year.
